Sport and Recreation
Sport and Recreation Tasmania provides funding to increase opportunities for participation in sport and active recreation in Tasmania, and to assist the ongoing development of Tasmania’s sport and active recreation sector.
Clubs, not-for-profit organisations and local government entities that provide sport and active recreation opportunities to the Tasmanian community are invited to apply.
For the purposes of Sport and Recreation Tasmania’s grant programs:
- 'Sport' is defined as:
A human activity involving physical exertion and skill as the primary focus of the activity, with elements of competition where rules and patterns of behaviour governing the activity exist formally through organisations and is generally accepted as a sport.
- 'Active Recreation' is defined as:
Active recreation activities are those engaged in for the purpose of relaxation, health and wellbeing or enjoyment with the primary activity requiring physical exertion, and the primary focus on human activity.

Funding is available through the following grant programs:
- Minor Grants Program - open 1 July 2013.
- Major Grants Program - open 1 August 2013.
- State Grants Program - the 2014 program has now closed.
- National/International Sport Championships Program - the 2013/14 program is closed. The 2014/15 program opens in July 2014.
- Trails and Bikeways Grant Program - the 2013/14 program is closed. The 2014/15 programs opens in July 2014.

Sport and Recreation Tasmania is pleased to offer a $5 000 scholarship to support the development of sport and recreation planning knowledge and expertise within Tasmania.
The scholarship recognises the need to increase sport and recreation planning capacity and skills in Tasmania. Effective planning is the key to the provision of facilities, environments, programs and services to increase participation in sport, recreation and physical activity.
This section provides information on training and education opportunities and model practices to assist organisations to provide safe participation opportunities for all Tasmanians.
